چکیده
This paper investigates the use of an augmented pendulum absorber for damping tower vibrations in monopile-supported wind turbines. A shunted electromagnetic transducer is proposed to replace classic viscous dashpot absorbers, order improve performance and durability absorber. series RCL (resistive-capacitative-inductive) network designed as supplemental shunt transducer, which together with intrinsic resistive-inductive properties coil results additional resonance. The system equations motion are established, from closed-form expressions optimal calibration derived using pole-placement. fully-coupled 14-degree-of-freedom aero-hydro-servo-elastic turbine model established evaluate under realistic conditions by non-linear time-domain simulations. Both frequency- show that procedure outperforms dashpot-based respect vibration mitigation.

Vibration Isolation using a Shunted Electromagnetic Transducer
By attaching an electromagnetic transducer to a mechanical isolation system and shunting the terminals of the transducer with electrical impedance, we can provide improved isolation performance while eliminating the need for an additional sensor. Simulated and experimental results on a simple electro-mechanical isolation system show that the proposed controller is capable of peak damping and hi...
متن کاملFoundation damping and the dynamics of offshore wind turbine monopiles
The contribution of foundation damping to offshore wind turbines (OWTs) is not well known, though researchers have back-calculated foundation damping from “rotor-stop” tests after estimating aerodynamic, hydrodynamic, and structural damping with numerical models. Because design guidelines do not currently recommend methods for determining foundation damping, it is typically neglected. This pape...
متن کاملApplication of an active electromagnetic vibration absorber in vibration suppression
A novel active electromagnetic vibration absorber (AEMVA) is developed. It is shown that for suppression of steady-state response to a harmonic excitation, a proportional and derivative feedback control is equivalent to a time-delayed control. The study of the stability issue focuses on a conflicting goal of achieving the marginal stability of the time-delayed vibration absorber and the stabili...

متن کاملAn Approach to Supporting Maintenance of Offshore Wind Turbine Blades
Offshore wind turbine blades suffer from various faults such as blade angle asymmetry, icing, and bends. Replacement of rotor blades normally involves heavy transportation (e.g., vessel and crane), and dependency on weather conditions. As a result, wind turbines come to a long standstill and costs on energy production increase. One approach to reducing the downtime and costs is to apply a prope...
